Mealworms are edible bugs belonging to the Tenebrionidae species. A mealworm is the larva form of a "yellow mealworm". It has a golden-yellow hue and six legs that are located at the front of its body, behind a small head.
The larva usually reaches a length of 3 cm.
The female can lay between 400 to 500 eggs. Their larvae emerge between 4 to 18 days after having been laid and remain in this stage for about ten months before undergoing several transformations until they reach adulthood. Life expectancy of an adult is about two months.
